Vietnam's rice export prices top global chart, outpacing Thailand and India
Vietnam’s rice exports continue to thrive as the market has recently picked up again with a noticeable price increase. The country has now become the world’s top rice exporter in terms of prices, surpassing both Thailand and India.
Specifically, the export price for Vietnam’s 5% broken rice stands at US$397–410 per tonne, while the price for long-grain, mildly fragrant rice is between US$530–540 per tonne. The premium ST25 rice variety is sold at around US$1,200 per tonne, making it more expensive than similar types from other countries.
As the winter-spring crop has basically ended, rice supply is no longer abundant. Meanwhile, traditional customers continue to show stable and high demand for Vietnamese rice.
Domestic enterprises have also temporarily stocked enough rice to fulfill existing export contracts. The remaining volume will be held back in anticipation of better market conditions, as rushing to sell now would yield lower profits.
